Use mobile to pay utility bills in state

The IT and communications department charted another first on Monday with the launch of the ‘Mee Seva-Airtel Money Services’, a partnership with Bharti Airtel, the mobile service provider.

The initiative will enable mobile users to make all utility bill payments from the convenience of their homes by loading money in their mobile phones at any Airtel touch point. A sum of `10 will be charged for each transaction.

The IT secretary, Sanjay Jaju, said that this service was another trendsetter in using IT to bring about changes on the ground. ‘Mee Seva’ effected

over 56 lakh transactions in a single year of its existence, with 4.5 lakh land records digitised so far.
The launch of the ‘Mee Seva’ portal by IT minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah marks the integration of 38 services, that were earlier available in eSeva. All services will be integrated into the portal, which will cover over 40 banks, credit cards, debit cards and Internet banking services.

“Another 48 will be added soon, and by the end of the fiscal, the number would be 100. In another year, all the 220 eSeva services would be available on the portal,” the minister said.
